Shibui Chanel

The summer's almost over in the northern hemisphere but The Style Index couldn't resist publishing these images from Chanel's spring/summer 2013 campaign with a Japanese teahouse theme. Shot by Karl Lagerfeld (in New York), the oriental aesthetic of the campaign is created by the inclusion of traditional low Japanese tables, sliding paper screen doors and tatami mats. Its cool sensibility is what the Japanese might describe as shibui, which roughly translates as a quiet and simple beauty. Top model award has to go to the Zen-like super model Stella Tennant (mostly in black), who is obviously channelling her inner geisha;
